..Cuba - 20 Peso Convertibles Dated 2009

República de Cuba
(Republic of Cuba)

Banco Central de Cuba
(Central Bank of Cuba)
 Currency - Peso (CUP)

This is an odd note of 20 pesos that I have in my collection. This note was given to me by a collector friend some years ago.

This note depicts Camilo Cienfuegos, a Cuban revolutionary who was born in Havana in 1932 and died in 1959. It was believed that he died in a small plane crashed into the Straits of Florida. Together with Fidel Castro, Che Guevara and few other Cuban revolutionaries, they successfully overthrown the Fulgencio Batista's government in Cuba in 1956, following the Granma (name of a yacht) expedition, sailed from Mexico to Cuba. Fulgencio Batista was the President of Cuba from 1940 to 1944; 1948 to 1952; and from 1952 to 1959, and he died in Spain in 1973 from a heart attack.
