...Dominican Republic - 2000 Pesos Oro 2000 Millennium Commemorative

República Dominicana
(Dominican Republic)

Banco Central De La Republica Dominicana
Currency - Peso Oro (DOP)

This is a 2000 peso oro note issued with the overprint of the 2000 Millennium logo, celebrating the Millennium in 2000. I believe this was the first time a 2000 pesos oro was printed by the central bank in 2000 and since then this note has been reprinted but without the commemorative text on it.

As this was the first time a 2000 pesos oro was issued, the designs were completely new. On the front of the note, it features two well known Dominicans, Emilio Prud’Homme y Maduro (b.1856-1932) and José Rufino Reyes y Siancas (b.1836-1905).

Emilio Prud’Homme y Maduro was a Dominican lawyer, writer, and educator and is known for having authored the lyrics of the Dominican National Anthem. José Rufino Reyes y Siancas was a Dominican composer, known for writing the music in the Dominican national anthem. He also wrote secular and religious music.

The note is printed with the following commemorative text;-

2000 NUEVO MILENIO
(2000 NEW MILLENNIUM)

On the back, it features the National Theater in Santo Domingo, the national's capital city.

Signatures - Héctor Valdez Albizu and Daniel Toribio
Printer - B A Banknote (British American Banknote Company - founded 1866)
Series First Prefix - AA
Size - 156.5mm x 67.5mm

Two Thousand Pesos Oro
Dated 2000, Emilio Prud’Homme y Maduro (1856-1932) and José Rufino Reyes y Siancas (1836-1905)
Reverse - National Theater in Santo Domingo

Are there anyone out there that are just as crazy as I am in collecting these millennium banknotes? If you are, please feel free to contact me as I would like to have a chat with you too.

I believe this is my second last note of the Millennium commemorative collection which I have been missing for 20 year. I delayed in getting this note prior to this as the asking price for this note was way ridiculously high and would not justify getting one then. Judging by the prefixes sighted, it is believed that at least 4.0 million pieces were printed for this commemorative note or could be more. I got this note much cheaper than those currently on offer.

Appreciate it if you please let me know if you find any broken links. Some of the images here were scanned with 100 dpi. These were done a long time ago, however I am not going to redo them again. Those latest scans are all done with 300 dpi.
